[Personality]: Guy is a young man who’s had a lot of life-changing events happen in an exteremely short period of time, and most of which have affected his personality to a certain extent. As such, it’s difficult to properly understand his personality without referring to these events.

As a child, he was most of his family was killed when a war basically ended up on his doorstep. After fleeing the area, he vowed to avenge his family by killing the family of the man who destroyed his own.

It’s hard to imagine the Guy that most people see as that same child—the one who was bitter, vengeful, and uncaring...not that he isn’t still. But generally, he presents himself as an easygoing and cheerful person, if somewhat quiet--much like he was when he was younger. He tends to view most situations with some degree of optimism, and tries to keep things from getting too tense without making light of the situation. Usually he resorts to humor, sometimes at his own expense, to achieve this.

He’s not a leader by any means, possibly due to his ‘occupation’ as a servant. In the very household he still holds a grudge against. He often defaults to the opinions of others and lets others take charge in most situations. However, he’s also likely to simply walk away from someone he disagrees heavily with or lead where he’s most capable. It’s just that he chooses not to in most cases.

In spite of this, Jade tends to request that he explain the situation or give information on something. This can be due to the fact that he tends to exhibit himself as someone that is quite knowledgeable. Surprisingly in some cases, when he reveals information that someone in his position/of his age wouldn’t normally know.

Guy also has trouble refusing most requests made of him. He might complain a little about the task if it’s time-consuming or out of his way, but if it’s within his abilities he’ll probably do it anyway.

Relatedly, a trait he developed by living in the Fabre household was a sort of ‘older brother’ attitude. Mostly towards Luke, who became less of a babysitting charge and more of a son Guy never wanted. But Guy grew attached to him and protective of him the more time he spent with Luke. This attitude extends to the rest of the party Guy travels with, with the exception of Jade and the girls, who Guy cares for but keeps a safe distance from.

This is where we get into the subject of Guy’s severe gynophobia. He has no issue talking to or seeing women--he even professes at one point that he ‘likes looking at women’--but if they get too close to him, he freaks out. Spectacularly. It’s revealed later that this fear stems from the death of his family, when he ended up buried in the corpses of his sister and most of the household’s female servants. That memory was suppressed and became an unexplainable phobia.

Another strong trait is his strong love of--well, more like obsession with--machinery of all types. His room is littered with bits and pieces of stuff he’s taken apart and put partially back together and he gets extremely giddy when he and his traveling group find ancient technology. Comically, he becomes sad if said technology is destroyed or made otherwise unobtainable. He also has a strong desire to pilot the Albiore--his world’s answer to the airplane--though it’s unclear whether or not he actually has the skill to do so. However, he is shown begging one of the pilots, but the outcome is unknown.

[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:

First and foremost, Guy is an excellent swordsman. He fights using the Sigmund style, a style that emphasizes speed over power, using his sword in his right hand and the sheath in his left as sort of a shield. He’s very agile and has excellent reflexes in and out of battle. His techniques are called ‘artes’ and come in physical and quasi-magical (‘arcane artes’), which are physical attacks combined with high concentrations of elemental fonons.

Also, as a servant, Guy knows how to do basic household chores like cleaning and general upkeep, and is explicitly show to be a decent cook if necessary. It’s also briefly mentioned that he’s a certified lifeguard. He’s as good at fixing and operating machinery as he is obsessed with the stuff, although he has to have some idea of what he’s dealing with does before he can actually do anything with it.

His major weakness is his fear of women. He’s physically unable to get within several inches of a woman for more than a few seconds, and he tends to react violently if touched. As stated above, he can talk to them as long as they stay a safe distance from him.

As far as other weaknesses go, he doesn’t have many, aside from issues regarding his past.

[Limited Powers]: Guy’s arcane artes will be weaker due to, uh, lack of elemental fonons. He’ll still be able to use use them, but they’ll do less damage than they would at home. He won’t be able to use either of his Mystic Artes.
